Morita Sushi in Jongno-gu, Seoul

All photos are copyrighted by me.

Morita family manages this, I guess :)
Morita (森田) on top left
Hui-cheon Jo-bap (Korean, top center)
Kaiten Sushi (Japanese, top bottom)
迴轉壽司(Mandarin, Korean Hanja, Japanese Kanji)
Directions at the bottom of this post.

Nice wasabi and soy sauce. Damn, forgot to include the Korean pickled vege on the left tray!

As soon as you are seated, a bowl of soup is served. While you think it is miso soup, you're wrong.... (drum rolls please)...
It is Korean doenjang soup without anything in it XD
The sushi above is supposed to be the cheapest sushi on the kaiten... at 2000.

These are not cheap bamboo chopsticks, but metal ones (refer to the previous photo).
The container next to it is pickled garlics. Sorry, garlic is not my favorite even it is sweet after being pickled.

On the left, the sushi I never miss, Unagi Sushi (鰻寿司), teriyaki-roasted freshwater eel (wikipedia).
On the right, unidentified squid/octopus in Edomae Nigiri style (江戸前握り).
Both of these were my favorites  o(≧ω≦)o

I have no idea what is this. A little bit salty, a little bit butter-ish taste from mayonnaise.
In Gunkan Maki style.

One of the most recognizable sushi, Ikura Gunkan Maki (イクラ軍艦巻き).
But this one here doesn't taste good. I added more wasabi and soysauce, but it didn't help either way.

The most exquisite looking sushi I ever seen on kaiten.
Served on a big sea clam, the thing on top is chewy so I suppose it is some kind of... sea creature. Sorry, not helpful at all :p
Taste okay to me.

6 plates of sushi at Morita's cost 21000.

Would like to try out food at Izakaya (居酒屋) in Korea next time :)

(click to enlarge the lousy map)
Get off at Gwanghuamun station on Line 5 (purple line). Find Exit 1 or 8. Morita Sushi is right opposite the Sejong Art Center's backyard, at Green balloon B.

On another note (totally unrelated to food):
The mention of the name Morita "森田"always reminds me of Morita senpai from Honey and Clover:

Strawberry~♥

Korean strawberries
are way better than Aussie strawberries. It's bigger and sweeter---not even a bit of sour!

We bought two boxes of strawberries for 4000 (equilevant to AUD4) which are on sale. Smaller boxes are sold 3000 for 2. The farmers sell them on their truck at Namdaemun Market. Right now is strawberry season so basically we can get strawberry from almost all grocery stores. However this is really cheap from Namdaemun Market because the shop near our place sell a similar size of box for 7000 per box.

I'm glad we chose big boxes and not small boxes XD

Indulging in sweet strawberries after a lunch or dinner is... heaven    ~( ̄▽ ̄)~

What did you say? 何を言ったの?

Raw whale on menu in Shimonoseki Japan Photo: Danielle Demetriou
Source: Telegraph UK

  1. I just can't believe how thick-skin people (or news agency or media) can get.

  • Most Japanese have never consumed dolphin or whale meat and many are opposed to the kills.

(Mainichi Japan) October 16, 2009

  1. I can still remember very well a Japanese says she cannot resist trying out whale meat when the restaurant offers it on the menu.
  2. And also the local's effort to promote whale meats to school children and the children say the whale meat is delicious and they like it----an attempt from the supporters of "Don't let the whale-eating tradition die out".
So.. what did the Manichi Daily say again?

Raya food and more healthy diet + lifestyle

Saya akan timbang diri sendiri sama ada pada hari Rabu atau Jummat ini, kemudian buat pelan detox dan jadual masa gym serta renang. Sekian.
  • I have lots of pimples now and my stomach is bloating almost all the time. Urgently need to detox myself not only from the oil and charcoal food but also from lack of sleep. Will start to adjust my lifestyle back to normal. An email from my student that titled (translated from Mandarin): "Irregular sleeps equals to commit suicide---for people who don't sleep at night", somewhat rings an alarm to me and I suppose I should live a healthier lifestyle.
  • I will force myself to go to campus everyday and do my work in the office as much as I can. And this, will require me to wake up early and my room will be the place for leisure and rest only. Making the bedroom as my workplace is probably the factor that contributes to my on-and-off insomnia. But to tell the truth, I love to do work in my room. Hmph.
  • Need to build up my stamina at the gym, I lost to a nanny in swimming on the last Thursday and I am ashamed of myself^^
  • Lately it's cold again and I don't sweat much. No detox activity at all. No good^^
Aja! Aja! Fighting!

I lost 3 KG in 3 days (or 2 and a half day to be exact!)

Avocado blended with soy milk and topping with blueberries
  1. It sounds simple and what you need to do within these 3 days are: Detox for 2 days, eat fruits only for 1 day (on the first day), and 1 hour workout at gym for 2 days-----my total weight loss is 3 Kg. Cool!
Alternate Plan A
  1. My detox plan used to be very simple: drink 2 litres of water in the morning for 1 week. And then you eat normal lunch, tea break and dinner or even supper for the rest of the day. I did this during primary school and secondary school when I felt there is too many toxin in my body LOL. Sounds good? Not everyone can drink 2 litres of plain water in the morning.
  • My first try (primary 5 I think) I could only drink 800 ml. But I manage to swallow down 1.5 litre the next morning and on the third morning I can drink 2 litres without feeling want to puke.
  • I repeated my water detox plan later in university not because I were gaining weight but because I ate nasi lemak nasi goreng and all the unhealthy devilish yummy Malaysian food everyday but still remain slim. I thought there must be something wrong with me (ada ulat dalam perut?) so decided to wash myself clean by drinking lotsa water.
  • And I can tell you that for my 3 years of Bachelor study, almost everyday I peed oily urine and also oily faeces. What to do, we were not allowed to cook on campus (no kitchen at all by the way) and I stayed on-campus for 3 full years, so I ate out EVERY SINGLE DAY and the food are damn oily.
Kiwis and fresh blueberries
Alternate Plan B (which I was adopting now)
  1. But here in Oz the food are fatty in terms of margarine fat and yeast fat and I don't really fancy salad without salad dressing. Hence on Day 1 I try to use fruit detox: Avocado soy drink with blueberries and 2 kiwis for brunch on the first day of detox. That's all.
  • When feeling hungry just drink lots of water. When you go to pee you will see oily substance in your urine! That means the detox plan is success! I also did an one hour workout at the gym in the evening: burn 100 calories on treadmill, another 100 on the peddler, and another 100 on cycling. I did some weighing too on my legs and arms. And of course don't forget a must do routine: pilates. Go to sleep early if you are very hungry.
  1. On Day 2, if you cannot stand drinking plain water only in the morning you can choose to make yourself some tea. Some people prefer green tea but for me OoLong tea is the best. For the differences and benefits read this, and this.
  • I love Oolong tea since I'm young, before I read about these articles, mohoho. I ate 2 kiwis for lunch. But in the evening I felt very hungry so I decided to eat very little rice with lots of carrots, 100g of baked beans and very little tuna. And then rest for at least half an hour before you drink water or tea (if you drink right after eating it won't help digestion).
  1. On Day 3, repeat Day 1's routine: water or tea in the morning, avocado drink for brunch, workout at the gym for one hour. It was at the gym that I weighed myself and found out I lost 3 Kg. So I happily went back and make myself Day 2's dinner with more rice, more carrots, more tuna, and more baked beans LOL. Topping with cheese some more^^
And with this detox + exercise plan I manage to fit into super skinny jeans in the shortest timeframe possible, yay! Which means I lose 1 to 2 size perhaps?

My healthy breakfast

  • I love everything express and fast. So my breakfast are very easy to make too.
Depends on your appetite, take 5-10 spoons of oatmeal into the mircrowavable ware and pour water or milk which left 1 thin layer of water just above the oats.
Microwave on high or at 850 degrees for 1:20 minutes to 2 minutes. Make sure it's not too dry or too moist, and voila the oatmeal is done!
*The shining honey makes me drool~*
Pour some honey (I use 1 teaspoon) over the oatmeal or stir it and there you go!
This is Australian pure honey that I bought from Preston Market for $7 only!
For a Gozilla like me I need to devour an additional 2 kiwis to make myself feel near-full.
The Ultimate Advice
  1. Must take breakfast!
  2. It's good for your brain!
  3. Honey is good for your brain too!
  4. Skipping breakfast will result in obesity and also decreasing your brain activity!

Aujour d'ui et Les fleurs

  1. Visit Tracy's house today.
  2. She even cooked me lunch-cum-dinner.
  3. OK, we have "brunch" as the breakfast+lunch. How about lunch+dinner? "Linner"? "Lunner"? or "Lundi"? Btw, Lundi is Monday in french, LOL.
  4. Anyway, many thanks for the ayam masak halia and sayur masak ikan bilis T_T
  5. And I did my job as a Majlis Perbandaran T_T
  6. According to Tracy, the flowers did not blossom during summer (may be it's too hot) but they freaking blossom in the middle of Autumn.
  7. So I took the photos of these freak flowers:
About to blossom
I am bigger than you
Close up (konon-konon nak mimic professional photographer)

  • I have some photos uploaded on my Flickr.

Grocery shopping in the evening

Bundoora Square in the evening
Today is so damn cold. Even though the sun is shining bright in the morning, it's cold like hell. Have no choice but to go out for grocery shopping. I cannot live a day without Muesli and Soya milk T_T The vegetables are running out, only left 3 carrots, as for fruits only left 2 avocados and 2 kiwis. Cannot last for more than 2-3 days T_T Thanks Tracy for accompanying me for grocery shopping. If not feels like 'procrastinating' the grocery shopping. I know I have been abusing the use of the word 'procrastinate' like forever, but I don't care, muahaha. We left our office together and took a tram ride to the nearest shopping centre, Bundoora Square. Had been hand-off potato chips for quite some time, so I bought 1 korean prawn keropok and everybody's favourite: Smith's Original Potato Chips T_T Last time I finished 6 packs of Smith's Potato Chips in 7 days. Thereafter I feel guilty of comsuming so many chips in one go so keep my hands off the chips for quite some time. Compensation, compensation. :)

Nasi Lemak House

After weeks of eating non-lemak food, finally we can go and eat the thing that we crave for the most in Oz---- NASI LEMAK!
Me and Amrah always eat at Lazzat @ Lygon, the nasi lemak at Lazzat served with rendang. This is the first time we try another nasi lemak restaurant in the city. Luckily for us we have nasi lemak sold in our campus but it's not everyday we eat them. For my case, it's not available everyday. Btw, I cook myslf to save more money. So... anyway get back to the yummy thingy. Nasi Lemak House, 113, Grattan Street, Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria. For those who come across this and wish to look for the restaurant. (sorry I forgot to take a picture of the shop itself) It's on the Official Melbourne City Guide That's Melbourne (with map).
Me and Sue ordered Nasi Lemak Kerabu! Big yummy drumstick, check. 'Keropoks', check. Spicy sambal, check. Peanuts, check. Ikan bilis (ancovy), check. Cumber slices, check. Seasoned bawang (onion--->the only that indicates this is 'Kerabu style, how pathetic T_T), check. Telu dadar (omellette), check. Nasi lemak (coconut rice), check.
Nasi Lemak Kerabu dua, with Teh Tarik (milk tea?) and bottled teh-o-ais (ALL Asian shops and restaurants sell bottled Lipton Iced-tea. I wonder why they do not bother to make Teh-O-Ais malaysian style. Is it that difficult? I know it isn't! I have to say that the coconut rice is disappointing :( OK lah, my standard for a good nasi lemak is very high OK. Monash University's nasi lemak is the best, in Melbourne. Nasi Lemak House is attractive because of its varieties of nasi lemak we never heard of back in Malaysia.
Like, Nasi Lemak Langkawi! Another one similar with this is Nasi Lemak Seafood, but with prawns and all-----I want to try that on my next visit. Amrah's Nasi Lemak Langkawi and teh tarik :)
And the most shocking of all.... Nasi Lemak VEGETARIAN!!! Seketul ikan bilis pun tak ade! Sorry, I lied. Actually there is seketul ikan bilis, which is accidently mixed inside the peanuts, haha. Lame joke. Ordered by Susheel. She has to be a vegetarian this weekend.
